Mariana Falconier
PhD, LCMFT, LMFT
Project Director
Dr. Mariana Falconier is a Professor and Director of the Master's Program in Couple and Family Therapy in the Department of Family Science, School of Public Health at the University of Maryland, College Park. She completed her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) and her doctoral degree in Family Studies at the Department of Family Science at the University of Maryland, College Park. Before joining the University of Maryland she was an Associate Professor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, serving first as Director of the Center for Family Services (2008-2016) and later as Director of the Master's Program in Marriage and Family Therapy (2017-2018). Dr. Falconier, originally from Argentina, began her work as a therapist with individuals, couples, and families in 1992.
She is a licensed marriage and family therapist in both states Maryland and Virginia and has been an approved supervisor by the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy since 2007. Dr. Falconier was also director of large outpatient mental health clinics such as WATS and Vesta,Inc. She has taught in several different universities nationally and internationally courses on multicultural and diversity issues in MFT, couple therapy, MFT theories and techniques, particularly postmodern approaches, and developmental psychology. Her research focuses on how couples cope with stress, primarily economic stress among low-income couples and immigration stress in Latinx couples. She has developed the evidence-based program TOGETHER , an interdisciplinary group program designed to help couples improve their communication, coping, and financial management skills. She has adapted the program to serve Latinx immigrant couples (JUNTOS en PAREJA) and LGBTQ+ relationships. Dr. Falconier has received over $11 million dollars in federal funding to implement the TOGETHER program and initially to evaluate it in a randomized controlled trial. Dr. Falconier has published and presented nationally and internationally and is the leading editor of the book Couples Coping with Stress: A Cross-Cultural Perspective, recipient of the 2018 CHOICE Outstanding Academic Title Award. She is co-author with Dr. Norman Epstein of the recently published book Treatment Plans and Interventions in Couple Therapy- A Cognitive-Behavioral Approach.
Jinhee Kim

Family Finance Expert and Former Co-Project Director
Dr. Jinhee Kim is Professor and Assistant Director (Program Leader of Family and Consumer Sciences for the University of Maryland Extension) at the University of Maryland, College Park. Her main research areas are financial management, family well-being, and health outcomes.
Her research also focuses on evaluating the impact of interventions aimed at improving financial security and family well-being. Dr. Kim published 3 book chapters, 50+ refereed journal articles and made 100+ invited and refereed presentations on workplace financial education, financial stress, family financial decision making, money and couple relationships, financial socialization, intergenerational transfers, savings behavior, asset ownership of immigrants, food insecurity, diet quality, and SNAP benefits. Dr. Kim is the TOGETHER Program’s Associate Director and Principal Investigator at UMD. She helped develop the TOGETHER curriculum utilizing her expertise on family financial management and well-being.

Robin Brannan

Robin Brannan is a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist and the Director of Better Together Family Therapy in Kensington, Maryland. She has been helping couples, families, and children to grow and thrive in the DC area for nearly 20 years. She joined the staff of the Together Program because she believes that a strong foundation in relationship skills and stress management can prevent future crises in marriages and in families. She loves the accessibility of this program for families of all income levels and cultural backgrounds and enjoys connecting with each couple she meets in the workshops.

Rafee Al-Mansur

Rafee Al-Mansur is a licensed marriage and family therapist working in private practice in McLean, VA. He received his Masters in Couple and Family Therapy from the University of Maryland and his Bachelors in Sociology from Johns Hopkins University. He has been with the Together Program since 2017 and loves witnessing couples transform their relationship through the tools they learn. Rafee is also the Chair of the Couple and Intimate Relationships Network of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). He is also a speaker for the Family and Youth Institute.

Nikki Pruett is an AFCPE® certified financial counselor and coach whose work is focused on helping individuals and couples talk about money, reach financial goals, and re-imagine life. Struck with a passion and devotion for financial awareness, education, and well being, she joined the Together Program staff in 2016. Working with the Together Program has deepened her appreciation for helping others in the area of personal finance and continues to be an inspiration for the work she does in the field.

Martha L Yumiseva
Couples Therapist and Workshop Facilitator
Martha Yumiseva-L., is originally from Quito - Ecuador, she is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Maryland’s School of Public Health. She earned her M.S.Ed. in Human Development at the University of Pennsylvania. She is a passionate researcher and educator, willing to offer tools and skills to help couple’s relationships. Martha has been facilitating workshops for the TOGETHER program in English and Spanish since 2020. Martha enjoys traveling, working out with her husband, and spending time with her baby daughter.

Yolanda Gonzalez Lavery
Financial Advisor and Workshop Facilitator
Yolanda Gonzalez Lavery is a first generation professional of parents who emigrated to the U.S. from Cuba. She is an Attorney-Advisor and CPA with the federal government in Washington, DC. She is also an Accredited Financial Counselor. She is fluent in Spanish and enjoys giving back to her community by working with first generation adults and youth, mental health, and animal welfare causes.

Schane D. Coker
Financial Counselor and Workshop Facilitator
Schane D. Coker is an Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC) and Financial Fitness Coach (FFC) and works as a Financial Counselor for the Department of Defense (DoD). He is a Doctoral Candidate in the Adult Education and Human Resource Development program at Florida International University (FIU). He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Purdue University in Financial Counseling and Planning and Consumer Science with a concentration in Family and Consumer Economics, respectively. He has previously worked as a Financial Coach for the Financial Coaching Program initiative which was sponsored by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. He has also worked in the Credit Union industry as a Loan Officer and Assistant Branch Manager. His research interests include Consumer Behavior, Consumer Household Financial Stability, and minority representation in Financial Literacy.

Megan Bautista
Financial Expert and Workshop Facilitator
Megan Bautista joined the TOGETHER Program as a Financial Expert Facilitator in June 2023. Megan has five years of experience teaching a range of audiences about various financial education topics, including taxes, budgeting, credit, debt, and much more, in both English and Spanish. Megan is the Program Manager for Tax Partnerships at the nonprofit CASH Campaign of Maryland, where they support CASH's statewide network of free tax preparation program partners, providing them with the tools and training they need to help their clients and communities reach financial stability by leveraging the tax time moment. Megan received their BA in Sociology and Africana Studies from Oberlin College, completed the Financial Social Work Certificate Program at the University of Maryland School of Social Work, and is a Certified Financial Education Instructor with the National Financial Educators Council. Originally from The Bronx, New York (Go Yankees!), Megan and their partner Rachel have called Baltimore their home since 2017 (GO RAVENS!).

Mike Hopkins
Couples Counselor and Workshop Facilitator
Mike Hopkins is entering his fourth year as a couples workshop facilitator. Growing up in Baltimore, Mike attended the University of Maryland, where he studied music and education. He transitioned to mental health after a career in music and teaching, earning two Master's degrees in School Counseling and Clinical Psychological Science from UMD. Mike has worked as a counselor for the Accessibility and Disability Service at UMD and as a School Counselor in Montgomery County Public Schools. In 2020, he became a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Maryland, providing telebehavioral health services to young adults. He also works with a small group practice in Millersville. Mike's research interests include large-scale mental health interventions in public schools and transformed School Counseling models. He hopes to begin a Ph.D. in Behavioral and Community Health in the near future. He enjoys watching sports, playing racket sports, training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, working out, and exploring DC nightlife. He continues his relationship with UMD by supporting couples through the Together Program and hopes others find it just as meaningful.
